HOUSE OF PINOTS

Producing extraordinary wines and bringing them closer to our costumers for whom wine represents a part of their personal culture has always been paramount to what we do. Wine should reflect grape quality, creativity and precision of production. It should also establish communication with those who drink it. We believe our fundamental mission is the production of pinots; thus, under the slogan HOUSE OF PINOTS, we strive to compete with the world’s greatest masters in this category.

TILIA ESTATE has been with you since 1996.

The TILIA ESTATE winery was founded by Melita and Matjaž Lemut in 1996 in Potoče, Vipava Valley. The brand’s name comes from the house companions linden trees, which connect the story of the winery all the way back to its beginning. The image of the linden tree is at once a symbol of Slovene independence and of a period in which our vision of being an independent wine grower was born. Thus to this very day, the silhouette of the linden tree growing in the first vineyard we planted figures on every wine bottle we produce.

1974
Silvester Lemut plants 1,500 vines with the intention of connecting his three city-dwelling sons with nature and fostering strong working habits in them. One of the sons is Matjaž.

Conventional wine growing tailored to individual wine styles.

Our vineyards cover 10 hectares of exceptional positions along the Vipava Valley. We grow varieties of pinot noir and pinot gris, merlot, cabernet sauvignon, sauvignon, chardonnay and yellow muscat. We uphold the ideas of conventional viticulture and adapt them to individual wine styles. Our primary goal is maintaining constant quality with the smallest possible variation between the vintages. The basic principles of our wine growing technologies are balanced growth, low yields and minimized use of pesticides.

Wine making is an art based on the personal character of the winemaker.

Along with their character, wine also reflects the winemaker’s various styles and ideas, as well as the precision and the consistency of technological procedures. According to these principles, the TILIA ESTATE winery develops a wide range of wines, both in terms of taste and richness and in terms of price. The pinots, the red blends and the fresh varietal white wines represent the main pillars of our wine production. On the My bio basis we strive to minimize the use of oenological substances, while remaining a boutique winery.

MATJAŽ & THE TEAM

We bring together the knowledge and power of people who believe in the story of the Vipava Valley, thus building together the brand of the TILIA ESTATE winery. Matjaž Lemut as the founder, the co-owner and the oenologist is the main driving force behind the entire estate.

Apart from family members and employees of the House of Pinots, our story is backed up by the following distributing companies: Evino, Universalwine (Belgium), La Fille du Tonnelier (France), TRIwines (USA) – and many other individuals. Our visual identity was realized by KOFEIN DIZAJN. They also participated in the project The making of grapa – Bitch.

Knowledge and experience are the primary forces behind the winemaker’s creativity.

We cooperate with local, national and international centers of knowledge: the Institute of Agriculture and Forestry in Nova Gorica, the University of Nova Gorica, the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia, the Biotechnical Faculty in Ljubljana, the Slovenian Sommelier Society, the University of Poreč.

Matjaž Lemut is also involved in the creation of wines from other wineries.

We hold expert lectures on wine and wine culture and organise stand-alone courses tailored to the needs of participants.

We also share our knowledge and experience with high-school and university students in training on the estate, as well as with any adventurers who visit our property. contact@tiliaestate.si
